Again, another “non-lesson” painting.
This time, it was ALL about lack of detail and expression.
This is completely different from what I’m used to (you only need to take a look at the other paintings I’ve done to see that I quite like detail!)
When Sarolta and I decided to paint this together – our first collaboration – the only guidelines we gave ourselves was that we wanted it to be lighter in the middle, with the darker colours around the outside… Other than that, anything goes!
Now, to put this in perspective, we were working with an A1 canvas (so approximately 59 x 84 cm or 23 x 33 in).
We have plenty of paint, business cards, scraps of card and palette knives to work with.
And then we just went to it!
Being a “detail” person as I’ve already said, in some ways I found this quite hard, not having boundaries to work within, but also quite liberating in terms of letting go and just allowing my mood and energy to dictate the colours and movement of colour across the canvas!
And there’s a thing…
Quite often we can get caught up in the detail of life and business and relationships.
We lose sight of just being free to express ourselves.
To be “us”.
And yes, sometimes when we do let go it can feel awkward.
Yet, when you truly surrender and let go, it can be the most exhilarating thing in the world at that moment!
We are both really pleased with this painting, it’s already up on the wall in the bedroom, and every morning it reminds me to let go and be me.
What could you do today, maybe even right now, to let go and just be you?
With love xx
