This week’s painting is another “non-lesson” painting.
Last summer, Sarolta and I were walking in the Peak District, it was hot and humid (and the day the flying ants decided to come out!)
We had been up to Kinder Scout, the tallest of the Peaks, and came down Jacob’s Ladder and found a quaint little bridge over the stream… Sarolta chose to cool off and paddle through the stream.
Using a photo I took as a reference, I decided to give it a go!
While planning the painting, I decided to remove the wooden gate that was wedged under the bridge and also a couple of changes to the steps on the right-hand side.
That’s one of the benefits of being an artist: we get to choose what we paint, how we interpret it and how we paint it!
And actually, that’s true about life too.
We interpret our lives based on the filters we have – values, beliefs, previous experience – and that creates our own reality, and that is different for each and every one of us.
For example, put a group of people on a rollercoaster and at the end ask them to describe their experience. While there may be some similarities with the experience you will also get a lot of differences.
And the thing is we can make changes to our lives. We can choose to remove the gate under the bridge, or put trees in a different place or change our job if we are unhappy or get out of a toxic relationship…
I believe that our life is all about mastery… mastering ourselves.
Looking at yourself, and I mean REALLY taking a long hard look at yourself is one of the scariest things you can do – and all too often we focus on the things we don’t like – but we then have awareness…
… and with awareness comes the possibility of change!
And change is within our grasp if we want it enough.
So many people I speak to want to change their life but don’t know how. They have dreams they believe will only ever be dreams. They are scared to change where they are because that feels even scarier…
But it DOES come down to choice.
You can choose to stay where you are, or you can choose to create change – you can remove your gate under the bridge.
What choice are you making?

With love xx
