I love the autumn.

I love all seasons in their own right, but as a walker the autumn colours hold a special place for me.

For this painting I wanted to combine the beautiful colours with wonderful woodland and play around with abstract and using pallet knives to lay down the paint.

I’m incredibly pleased with the result of the beech trunks with using the pallet knife to ‘flick’ the paint across.

On my painting journey I have created some abstract pieces in the lessons, but not so much in my own painting, and I realised that it’s all too easy for us to stay with what is comfortable… taking the path of least resistance and staying within our comfort zone.

If there’s anything my painting journey has taught me, it has been the amazing results you can get when you get outside of your comfort zone.

If we only focus on the way we’ve always done things, we will always get similar results to those that we’ve had.

If we want to change our outcomes then we need to look at things differently, from a different perspective (maybe even abstractly) to see other possibilities, other options, other outcomes.

Life is a Journey full of lessons, and when we embrace these lessons we find not only that our attitude towards life changes, but the outcomes we get a more in line with what we want to achieve in life.

Well, that’s my experience anyway.
