This week we are back to wildlife with a hare (though mine might be more Peter than Hartley!)

We mixed building the base of the hare with tones of Indian Ink and then adding a light colour wash in acrylics, and then a loose background.

It still amazes me what I can get done in each two-hour lesson.

Some of my non-lesson paintings have taken longer and been more detailed, but what I have learned is what I can achieve in a limited time.

My default is ‘perfectionist’ and time (and what I can get done in that time) has been something I’ve had to work on.

Parkinson’s Law states that the time required to perform a task tends to extend to all the time available to perform it.

So if I allowed 4 hours for the painting, the painting would take 4 hours.

This is why having a schedule can significantly help productivity.

If you have a meeting, fix a time for the length of the meeting and have a clear agenda of what you are looking to achieve.

If you have a task to do, fix a length of time for doing that task and stick to it.

As Jim Rohn once said, “Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can never get more time.”

Time is our most precious resource, yet we all too easily let it slip through our fingers.
