“Oh no… a flower!”
That was the first thought I had when I saw the topic for this week’s painting.
In my mind, painting flowers have not been my strong point.
The only one I can honestly say I’m comfortable with is the “Watering Can Flowers” I did 5 weeks ago.
The trouble is, that belief then sets the bar for the negative self-talk to begin…
“I’m going to struggle with this one…”
“It’s not going to be any good…”
Yet I know that even (almost) a year on, I’m still learning.
And I know that sometimes the outcomes we get aren’t always what we expect.
And I also know that sometimes we can just have ‘off days’.
And it’s ok. It’s normal.
Part of my commitment to you at the beginning of this process was to publish each painting on my journey, regardless of how uncomfortable it makes me feel.
Getting outside of my comfort zone is also part of my growth, as an artist as well as a person.
And so this Anemone is here for you.
Art is subjective and whether you like this painting or not, it’s a part of my journey.
It’s part of my vulnerability.
It’s a part of me.
There are times in life when we don’t do things we want to do or promise to do or even need to do.
Often because of fear.
Fear of being criticised; of being laughed at; of shame.
Allowing that fear is setting the bar of what happens next…
It shuts you down from possibilities. It shuts you down from learning. It shuts you down from being the most awesome version of you.
I know how hard it can be. I’ve been there.
These fears, these critical thoughts ARE just stories we tell ourselves, and these stories CAN be changed, CAN be rewritten and CAN be overcome.
With love xx
