This week I’m back to painting animals.

There’s something about animals that resonates with me so much.

I have painted fish in the past, but this is my first turtle.

I have talked before about being outside of my comfort zone with painting, and how I have found it invaluable to improve my skills.

These all lead to a larger comfort zone and a lot more confidence.

There are also times when we can use our comfort zone to our advantage as well.

I’m comfortable with dry brushing – adding light touches of paint on top of dry paint to add texture – especially for fur, so I decided to use it to create the natural, uneven texture on the turtle’s shell and body.

When you’re working in your comfort zone it’s far easier to get into flow.

If we love what we are doing, we are more likely to persist with it, which can be an important factor in achieving what we want, such as in goal setting.

I love spending time painting.

I always get a result (regardless of how comfortable I am with the subject matter), though it might not turn out exactly how I expect.

The thing is, the times where the outcome isn’t as you expect it to be are often the biggest lessons we can learn to continue forwards.

Use the tools you have.

Focus on doing more of the things you love.

Expand your comfort zone…

… and you can achieve anything!
