This grey heron is a project I did for my son‘s 17th birthday. Grey herons have always had meaning for him and remind him of his Nana (my mum).
He was delighted when he saw it for the first time, and I believe it’s up on his wall already!
Sometimes, I paint because I’m learning and want to improve my understanding of different techniques.
Sometimes I paint to implement what I’ve learned.
And sometimes I paint just because I want to paint.
This time it was because I wanted to create something special and unique for my son, which has a specific meaning to him.
I’ve realised the importance of doing something special for people.
It’s all too easy to go ‘commercial’ when looking at birthday presents or gifts for people (or clients), but how much more impact does it have when you add a personal element to it?
There are plenty of material things he wanted for his birthday, and I’m sure he would have been delighted and appreciative of anything I bought him. I KNOW that he was surprised, delighted and emotional when he saw the painting and realised it was created especially for him.
When a new client signs up for coaching with me, I send them a handmade, handwritten thank you card with a small, unique watercolour painting on the front. Yes, it takes me a little time, but the impact can be huge, and far more impactful than me just buying a greeting card.
What could you do to make something more personal and impactful?
Much love xx
