Canada Goose

Canada Goose

Today’s painting is an expression of a Canada Goose.

I found myself falling into what is becoming a comfortable style for me – dry brushing to build layers of colour to create differences in skin and fur texture.

That’s something that we tend to do in life too.

The way we expand our knowledge, our experience our belief in ourselves is to stretch ourselves. To stretch our comfort zone.

It’s okay to work within your comfort zone; there are times when we need to and it is our default, but if we want to change things in our lives, change the outcomes that we have, we have to stretch ourselves into something different.

And actually, this is something we have done since we were born. If we didn’t get up on our feet and try walking (falling over, getting up again, rinse and repeat), if we didn’t make sounds until they became words then we wouldn’t have progressed, we wouldn’t have developed.

We all have that ability from birth, but we allow our beliefs and fears to hold us back – to stay in our comfort zone.

So I may have defaulted back to my comfort zone with this painting of the goose, but actually my comfort zone today is way bigger than it was when I started with my first painting six months or so ago. I’ve been through my stretch zone multiple times until it’s become part of my comfort zone.

So now, it’s time to stretch myself again. To learn some more techniques, styles and tackle new subject types. I know that this time in another six months time I’m going to be in an even more awesome place than I am now.

Are you living within your comfort zone? Are you ready to step out into your stretch zone and push yourself that little bit to expand your comfort zone?

With love xx
